Key Matchup

When I saw that the Red Sox and Mets were playing each other this season, I made sure we got tickets to one of the games.  After all, there wasn't anything more fun for me and Mike than seeing our teams face off against each other.  It only happens every few years, and the last time the two of us saw them play each other was in 2009 at Fenway Park.

On Saturday, Mark and I, along with John and Denise, set out to CitiField to enjoy this very special matchup.  And with Mike's birthday only a few days away (now tomorrow), I couldn't think of any better way to mark the occasion.  The Mets lost, but I couldn't have conceded the game to a more deserving opponent, Mike's favorite team.  While I wasn't necessarily looking out for any "Godwink" moments, one came, just minutes before the opening pitch.  As both teams were preparing to begin, "Simple Man" by Lynrd Skynyrd began to play -- this was the song that Mike and Mom C., danced to at our wedding.  And after the game, we paid a visit to our brick outside the ballpark, and it was just as beautiful as the time we saw it on our only trip to CitiField in 2010.
It was all... simply perfect.
